Zendom's Favorite Fics - The Sequel

And we continue the list of favorites of the deniZens of the Zendom list.

"Why Nineveh is still standing" by Luna
Fandom: WW (CJ/T)
Rating: R

A long Manchester I & II companion, which delves into all of the emotion we never got to see on screen, it's gorgeous stylistically, and it's by Luna, so it automatically rocks.

All the Songs by Clair Gabriel
ST: Voyager
Rating is NC17

Technically part 3 of a longer story, but it can be read alone. Quite simply the most graceful, beautifully written piece of J/C erotica out there. The term 'smut' does not do it justice. Elegant, wonderful writing, with understated, powerful emotion, structured into a larger AU that joins back into the real universe at this part.

Retina Burn by August and Penelopody

I had this sort of knot in my stomach at the end and every time I read it again (which seriously isn't that often. It's really not the kind of fic you read over and over again for the joy of it)I'd get the same result.

THE CAPTAIN, HER COMMANDER, THEIR COOK AND HIS LOVERS
ST: Voyager
Rated R

Summary: The Command Team are on an errand of mercy - baling Tom and Neelix out of trouble in a house of ill repute. Want to know what Neelix looks like naked? Read on... and if the thought of that makes you want to hurl your Wheaties, read on anyway.

Kirk and Spock Go Ice Fishing (aka If My Aunt From Minnesota Wrote Star Trek) by Jungle Kitty
Rating: not sure, probably PG

Imagine the least likely relative to like sci-fi tells a slash story using the most cliched setup for a Star Trek PWP, totally in vernacular, and this'll top it, and make you laugh until you feel urpy.

Polar Ice Caps by Alyjude
NC-17
The Sentinel

Polar Ice Caps examines the costs -- personal, professional, and psychological -- of the actions of Naomi Sandburg in the last episode of the series, with careful skill and brutal honesty; it's both emotionally draining and fullfilling to read.

"Animus," by the Spike
BtVS, NC -17

part of the Webrain's Unpossessed Country series, the whole of which can be found here. The reason why it's my favorite? Well, Jesus, check out the summary. "Oz has a deep and meaningful dream with cartoons in it." Completely accurate, both in tone and content. The story is funny, surreal, sweet, gorgeously written, *and* manages to say completely new things about characters I adore.

Safety in Numbers by Elizabeth
X-Men movieverse

I have this fic bookmarked, printed out and can practically recite it by heart; it was the first Logan/Rogue fic I read and quite possibly the only one that ever needed to be written because it's just perfectly, achingly, heartbreakingly *right*. *sniff*

deconstruction (third in the "Brick by Brick" series) by Liz Shelbourne
The Pretender
Rating: PG-13

This 3rd and final instalment presents us with a darker Jarod, one who is resolved to end the machinations of the Centre once and for all. The characters voices are dead on, the plot is engaging, and the ending provides enough pain and happiness to satisfy both sentimental shippers and angst whores alike. A fabulous read, deconstruction was nominated for Best Action Adventure story in the 2001 Pretender Fanfiction Awards.

The Boy Who Gave Away His Birthday by Mary Borsellino
Fandom: Sandman
Not rated (slash)

It's a gorgeous piece of writing in one of my favorite fandoms, the characterization is perfect, and it somehow translates the "feel" of the comics to pure prose.

Amen by Ellen Milholland
PG
West Wing

I've read this story so many times and its beautiful writing, and wonderful style still makes me gasp. It's probably the best CJ story there is (though Ellen always challenges herself for the title)

Apocrypha by Thamiris
Smallville
NC-17

This is an incredibly beautiful piece of work; technically outstanding with language that's ethereal and sensuous, Thamiris takes the reader deep inside the character's heads and their emotions creating a strong emotional bond between the reader and the characters.

anyway the main thing is by Hth
Angel (Wes/Gunn)
NC-17Hth always writes powerful pieces, but this one is what I'm using for a reference when my kids ask me what love is and I have to explain it.

Contrition by Michele Masterson
PG-13
ST:Voyager

Heartbreaking, heartrending and heartwarming with wonderful characterizations and beautiful prose, nicely told from B'Elanna's POV.

Road Trip by Laura (laura@spasticlife.com)
Queer as Folk US
Rating: NC-17

All of Laura's stories are fantastic, but this one is particularly good - hot, funny, poignant and the best Ted POV I've ever read

Super Freakby Livia
NC-17
Smallville

Okay, so Smallville is a damn depressing fandom sometimes, because of the whole, you know, doomed destiny to be sworn enemies thing, so when happyfic is done well, it's a joyous thing; this is the story that I think of for everything you could want -- amazingly well characterized, funny and very witty, and extremely hot. Homecoming by Janete
Bobby/Hank (aka: Iceman/Beast)
Ult. X-men, NC-17.

It has scenes that make me laugh and scenes that make me go 'gah!' and they're all mixed up together with fabulous characterization especially a Hank who sounds like Hank does in my head when I read the comics.

Odds Against Tomorrow by Jennifer Oksana
Rated R
Angel the Series.

Exemplifies everything dark about the Angel series, with fantastic characterizations of my favorite characters. Real personal favorite Halfway by Ariana
[ST: DS9, K/Du, R, 153k]

Set just after "Return from Grace," or, rather, during, this one sexy fuck of a story, with all the power play, seduction, and witty banter you'd expect from your favorite evil Cardassian. Plus Kira is a woman with needs. Brilliant, steamy story of one night on a stolen Klingon ship -- Ariana is the mistress of Dukat.

Paradigm of Uncertainty by Lori
(PG13) Harry Potter fandom

This fic is the first part of an ongoing story arc that covers the lives of Harry, Hermione, and their friends in the decade after graduation from Hogwarts; while her writing and plotting are tighter and better in her current WIP, Hero With A Thousand Faces, PoU really sets the standard for action, drama, mystery, romance and magic through its spot-on characterisations, canon synergy and overall writing.

Taken by Isilzha
NC-17
JAG, Clark Palmer/Harmon Rabb, slash

Taken is a beautifully evil look at a Rabb who's just getting that he wants a guy and where that interest leads him: the bathroom of a gay bar with his nemesis, Clark Palmer, waiting to fuck with his mind.

Hyperion to a Satyr by Sebastian

Sebastian is the best writer in Pros by a universe and a half. She does bleak. She pushes the character boundaries to their limits. But you always believe her Bodie and Doyle. This story charts their burgeoning relationship. The joy is in the tiny details - see the sharing the peppermint scene.
